Throughout my life, creative practices have never been something I need to go out of my way to do. I was lucky enough to be at schools that encouraged art and creativity thinking from a very early age. Creating and making became my way of life. Before deciding on fashion, I had a keen interest in ceramics and still do. I enjoy making things that reflect my emotions at the time as a way to let go and move on and make something beautiful with it.
Within studying a Bachelor of Fashion and Sustainability at Collarts I have learnt the hope a new sustainable fashion future can bring.
S.BLACKNEY is a personal reflection of the values towards sustainability that I hold and shows that these practices can be so creative whilst using materials that have been overlooked and seen as ‘waste’ or creating brand new materials with textile innovation. I would like to influence designers everywhere to understand that fashion isn’t a linear business model but is a means to express oneself and create circularity.
