This jacket is composed of several sustainable elements. The body and facing are made from repurposed painting canvases, sourced from my own collection, family, or secondhand op shops. The canvases are painted with acrylic paint, which contains an acrylic polymer emulsion—a plastic binder that can take over 200 years to biodegrade. The ceramic pieces used are either earthenware or porcelain, both of which decompose very slowly but are environmentally benign, as they are essentially just heated clay. The embroidery thread was salvaged from a bin at a materials store, and some of the machine thread was purchased secondhand. The snap-lock buttons are made of metal, which can either biodegrade or be melted down and recycled. The lining is crafted from 100% silk, ensuring it is biodegradable. At the end of the garment's life, I will carefully disassemble it, properly disposing of each component or repurposing them for future projects.
