Growing Chair

The only material waste in this chair comes from the paper seed packets and the upholstery fabric. The growing beds are made from hand-carded and felted 100% sheep and alpaca wool, ethically sourced from my Auntie and Mia, who shear their sheep in a sustainable and humane manner. To ensure no chemicals were introduced into the environment, I used only hot water—without soap—during the felting process, which is the traditional method. This approach prevents any harmful runoff from contaminating the garden.

The chair itself was found on Facebook Marketplace, just a short walk from my home, so I was able to pick it up without using my car, further reducing my carbon footprint. The upholstery fabric was carefully saved and will be reused in a future project, minimizing waste.

Every aspect of this piece has been thoughtfully considered to minimize harm to animals, people, and the planet. As a result, it is 100% biodegradable, sustainable, and designed with a deep commitment to eco-conscious practices.
