Recycled Denim

Denim is a material that has been around for centuries originally used for ‘workwear’. In more recent years it has become a material for various fashion garments including jeans, jackets and shorts. Denim can be an extremely unsustainable material to produce but it is always available in mass amounts at opshops.

Within this project, I wanted to use denim that was no longer in use or ‘out of fashion’. The materials used were obtained from jackets, jeans and gifted piece of denim

Within the 2 piece set i had been given a 2x1 m piece of denim fabric. I decided to create an asymmetrical top and skirt. Each piece of the material was used and it was all hand sewn together.

The long denim jacket was created by taking apart 4 different denim jackets and hand sewing them together. This design and creation process took me 5 hours.

With old denim material, I created a patchwork under-bust corset which includes underwire for structure. this piece was machine sewn.
